UCR Alliance for Graduate Education
and the
Professoriate (UCR AGEP)
(Funded by the National Science Foundation)
UCR is located in one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the country and has the most diverse undergraduate population in the UCR system. UCR is also the fastest growing campus in the UC system, increasing from 8,382 students in 1995-96 to over 17,000 in 2004-05. The objective of the UCR AGEP program is to take full advantage of the shifting demographics of the undergraduate population to significantly increase the participation of under-represented students in the graduate programs in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Activities funded by AGEP include:
  • Funding for AGEP Fellows in their first year of graduate study to participate in an 8-week summer research internship program.  A stipend of $4,000 included ;
  • Travel funds to enable several advanced AGEP Fellows to participate in regional or national scholarly meetings or to fund travel to research sites;
  • Professional development workshops for all AGEP Fellows;
  • A Grad Prep Clinic for CSU Masters students in the STEM fields.  Funds are available for 10 local CSU masters students to travel to UCR for a 3-day period in the summer to spend a “day in life” of a Ph.D. student.  They will be matched with labs of their choosing.
